The Challenge

Spinal cord injury remains one of the greatest unmet needs in medicine. For many patients, there are still no effective treatments to restore lost function. The consequences can be life-changing, including paralysis, loss of sensation, bladder and bowel dysfunction, neuropathic pain, and serious breathing difficulties.

A Promising Solution

Medjeduse is developing an innovative neurosurgical implant designed to support repair after spinal cord injury. Acting like a protective and regenerative “bandage,” it aims to create the right environment for healing and to improve recovery of movement and sensation.

The Technology

At the heart of this approach is a patented chitosan-based microgel, developed for nervous system repair. This biomaterial is designed to reduce cavity formation after injury and support reconnection of nerve fibers across the damaged area — a promising step toward true repair.

Why This Matters

In preclinical studies, this technology has shown remarkable results. In animal models with complete spinal cord lesions, treatment supported significant axonal regrowth within the injury site, and some animals recovered the ability to walk again.

With the right support, promising research like this can move closer to the next critical step: bringing innovation from the lab toward future patient care.
