TUMBLING is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing innovative research for people living with spinal cord injury, as well as for the families and loved ones whose lives are also deeply affected.
Our goal is to help promising projects progress more rapidly from preclinical research to clinical studies by raising the funding needed to make that critical next step possible.
Through this support, we hope to accelerate scientific progress and help bring new treatment possibilities closer to all those affected.

First Donation Project: Medjeduse

Promising preclinical studies in animals have shown that Medjeduse’s patented chitosan-based microgel scaffold may support repair of the injured spinal cord and improve recovery. Through TUMBLING, we want to help move this research one step further: from animal studies toward human clinical application

Our First Donation Project is Medjeduse in Paris, a place deeply connected to Thierry’s life, work, and vision.

Medjeduse holds a special place in our story. Its founders and scientists made extraordinary efforts to move toward a first-in-human clinical trialas quickly as possible, hoping their research might one day offer new possibilities for Thierryand for others living with spinal cord injury. But funding was limited, and time was not on his side.

Through TUMBLING, we hope to help carry this work forward.

Medjeduse has a Patented Technology for Nerve Repair

The device

Patented chitosan based hydrogel particles (microgel) are designed for nervous system repair. It reduces cavity formation, promotes nerve fiber reconnection, offering a groundbreaking repair solution.

Solution

A neurosurgical implant acts as a bandage for spinal cord injuries, enhancing recovery of movement and sensation in complete lesion rats.

Breakthrough in Nerve Repair

Their chitosan microgel, has shown incredible results in rats, enabling them to walk again. We observe significant axonal growth within the injury site. This breakthrough demonstrates potential to revolutionize spinal cord injury care.

Thierry's Legacy

Professor Thierry de Baère was an exceptional physician, scientist, and internationally respected pioneer in interventional oncology.

He was known not only for his brilliance and vision, but also for his warmth, generosity, and deep commitment to patients. After his spinal cord injury, his life,  and the lives of those closest to him, changed profoundly. The kind of clinical progress that might one day help others did not come in time for him.

TUMBLING was created to help promising research move forward faster, so that scientific progress may reach patients when they need it most.

Why Supporting Innovate Scientific Projects Matters

" TUMBLING is much more than a nonprofit organization. It is a missionI carry with all my heart. I feel deeply committed to helping raise the funding needed for Medjeduseto move closer to a first-in-human clinical trial, so that this research may one day help people living with spinal cord injury. I deeply believe in the importance of moving science forward with courage and openness. The future of healthcare lies not only in scientific rigor, but also in the willingness to explore how medicine, nature, technology, and the human mind may work together. Hope, conviction, beliefand perseverance have a strong impact in healing and recovery. What mattersto me is not only the patient, but also the loved ones whose lives are changed alongside them. If, through this work, we can make a difference for patients and families, and help spare even one person or family from losing hope, then every effort behind TUMBLING is worthwhile. Every contribution matters, and every step forward matters. THANK YOU! "

" If people care, they want to help others. By donating, research can move forward faster, and people with spinal cord injuries may get the treatment they are hoping for. After someone I deeply loved was injured, I saw how deeply it affects both patients and the people around them. Therapy came too late for him, but if something good can still come from that pain, it brings hope. I believe helping others and loving others is what life is all about. ”
